I'll spare everyone from regurgitating the index of the book and highlight some things from the books I found particularly useful. The book is thorough in covering the exam topics. In the front of the book you will find the current exam objectives nicely mapped to each of the four sections of the book - so you know the exam blueprint is covered in its entirety. This keeps you from having to go back to the CiscoLearningNetwork.com to cross-reference the information. The Memory Tables, which are located on the CD, are a great tool to help with active-recall of the densely packed information in the book. It is not only a blank template for you to fill out, there is also a filled out table which acts as the answer key to check that you've extracted the right information from the text since the table is open ended question format. The CD that comes with the books is a real nice addition to the text. The user interface is a .exe Flash interface which launches the content on the CD. The downside is that (as the back cover states) you need Windows to access some of the content. The PDF's and videos can be launched and viewed from another OS by navigating through the folders on the CD, however the exam engine requires the .Net Framework - Mac users will have to install the test engine in a VM. The exam engine is an appealing, robust application with exam grading, history, and includes multiple tests for exam prep. The test engine includes all of the questions from the book as well as 2 other sets of questions to help prepare you. Keith Barker recorded the 3 videos contained on the CD. They are excellently produced, high quality and entertaining to watch. The only downside is that there are only 3 topic covered - CCP, Port Security and Zone Based Firewall. Too bad there wasn't more!
You'll find that the two authors Scott and Keith have very similar styles of writing and explaining topics, making the text less disjunct than some other co-authored titles. This is a really a great package between the text and the resources on the CD. I'll give it 4 of 5 starts as I would like to have seen a Mac friendly version of the test engine) or OS independent. An iOS/Android test engine would be ideal!
